Festival Fun
Congratulations to Ms. Flaherty’s 6th class students from Scoil Mhuire Brierhill, who recently enjoyed an early summer treat after winning the “Be Inspired This Summer” competition. Organised by Inspiring You and kindly supported by PEM Penn Engineering, the competition rewarded the class with an unforgettable, high-energy festival day.
Inspiring Insights
As part of their victory celebration, the students welcomed Mary Ann Fleming, Director of Penn Engineering Europe. She delivered an inspiring talk to the 6th class about STEM pathways and the exciting possibilities available to them as future leaders. To mark the occasion, Mary Ann joined the students in planting a Ginkgo tree on the school grounds. As the oldest known tree species with a lifespan of up to 1,000 years, the Ginkgo serves as a lasting symbol of endurance, beauty, and resilience.
Set Dancing and Drumming
The rest of the day was filled with vibrant entertainment, music, and dance. Mitchell Music had the entire classroom singing along to their class anthem, “The N17,” while the Abbeyknockmoy Set Dancers got everyone moving by teaching them the traditional steps to “Shoe The Donkey”. The celebratory ice creams served during the lunch breaks were also a massive hit with the students.
Galway Bay FM and KamilFilms
Capturing all of these memorable moments was KamilFilms, who took photos of the festivities and various school teams to ensure the memories last a lifetime. The team from Galway Bay FM children’s programme “In The Loop” we’re also present chatting to the students and organisers about the festivities.
Bringing Dreams to Life
A special thank you goes out to Ms. Flaherty, Ms. Nugent, and school principal Mr. O’Sullivan for their wonderful hospitality. Heartfelt gratitude is also extended to the team at Penn Engineering for their generosity of spirit and their dedication for encouraging local students to stay active, creative and device-free over the summer months.
We wish all of the students a safe, creative, and inspiring summer holiday!
