Enter our #OceanTransformers competition and help make our oceans plastics free
Take action and save our oceans
We are asking primary and secondary school students across Ireland to enter our “Ocean Transformer” competition. All you have to do is write a short message or design a poster encouraging people to take action and save our oceans.
Inspire the world
Our oceans are dying due to plastic pollution can you inspire the world to change its ways?
The Message is The Bottle!
The message in a bottle concept has been popular for hundreds of years. Unfortunately bottles and plastics pollution are filling the world’s seas and killing marine and animal life.
Write a message to the world
We want to you write a message of 200 words or under, telling the world of what is happening in the oceans with plastic pollution and how we must take action to save them. The focus is that The Message is the Bottle!
Offering tips on how to write
Leading independent publisher Tribes Press is supporting our #OceanTransformer competition. They will be offering tips on how to write creative short messages and letters. As part of the prize they will be formatting the winning letter.
Raise awareness
The message will be printed and displayed to raise awareness about plastics pollution at a number of locations around the world.
Be artistic and design a poster
If you prefer why not design a poster to show the problems plastics are creating in our seas? The poster must be no bigger than A3 in size and should show the effects plastics have on marine life. Artist Fiona Concannon will be offering guidance and tips to young artists entering our #OceanTransformer competition.
Who can enter?
It is open to all primary or secondary school students. You can enter as an individual, a group or a class.
Can I enter both competitions?
Yes you can. We need your ideas to change the world!
When is the deadline for submission?
The deadline for entering is 5pm on Friday March 29th.
How do I submit my entry?
You simply email your message here.
Take a photo of your poster and submit it here.
What are the prizes?
The two winners will receive great class prizes. The student/class who submits the winning message will receive a “Land and Sea Tour of Galway” for 25 students courtesy of “Ocean Transformer” supporters Galway Bay Tours and Galway City Tours
The student/class who submits the winning poster will enjoy a fun filled day swimming and playing crazy golf thanks to Leisureland Galway.
But don’t worry the winning classes will not go home hungry as they will be treated to pizza and a drink at Supermac’s Salthill.
What happens with the prizes?
Tribes Press Publishers will help select the winning message and will format it professionally. We will then encourage schools, groups etc to share it around the world and spread our #OceanTransformer message.
Artist Fiona Concannon is one of our #OceanTransformer poster judges. She will help mount the winning poster.
Both prizes will go on display at National Aquarium in Galway to help raise awareness as to the dire impact plastics are having on our seas.
We will then encourage schools, groups etc to share the winning message and poster around the world and spread our #OceanTransformer message.
Video message for the winners
Musician and environmentalist Sharon Shannon and marine biologist Catherine Jordan will also deliver a video message to the winners.
You are the future leaders of tomorrow so we need you to help raise awareness about plastic polluting our oceans.
The winning entries will be announced on Tuesday April 2nd. The winners parents/guardian will be contacted by phone.
