We are really excited to have Tipperary\u2019s own<\/strong> Shane Long<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>take part in our #InspiringYou<\/strong> interview series.  The Ireland<\/a> and Southampton<\/a> marksman is looking forward to hearing your questions.  We are giving children the opportunity to send questions to some of Ireland\u2019s leading personalities<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

#InspiringYou<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The idea for the #InspiringYou<\/strong> interviews is for us to inspire each other<\/strong> and to help children dream of a brighter tomorrow<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have you ever wanted to ask the<\/strong> Southampton<\/strong> and Irish <\/strong>player about his GAA background<\/strong>, dealing with big game nerves, favourite player, training tips<\/strong> or best goal ever scored ? Now is your chance! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hurling for Tipp<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Shane<\/strong> is something of a sporting all-rounder. He was a very talented hurler<\/strong> and played in the 2003 All-Ireland semi-final for Tipperary<\/a> against Galway.  Despite his love of GAA his soccer brilliance<\/strong> was nurtured from an early age.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long way from Tipperary!<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Shane\u2019s pace<\/strong> and soccer were first noticed at St Kevin’s FC<\/a> in 1994 before he joined St. Michael’s<\/a> in Tipperary Town<\/a> in 2002.  It wasn\u2019t \u201cLong\u201d before he signed for Cork City FC<\/a> in 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Football \u201cRoyal\u201d<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Reading<\/a> came calling in 2005 and his resilience, natural toughness and his keen eye for goal soon established him as a crowd favourite where he played alongside Irish stars Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Debut goal\nagainst Manchester United<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In 2011 Shane moved to West Brom and scored a goal against David de Gea<\/a> on his club debut! Shane spent three seasons at The Hawthorns scoring many memorable goals<\/strong> including some against Chelsea and Liverpool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saint\nShane!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Tipperary striker moved to Hull City in January 2014 scoring against Crystal Palace on his debut. That summer Southampton swooped for Shane<\/a> on a four year deal.  On 5 April 2019, he became only the fourth Irish player to score 50 Premier League goals<\/strong> and scored a memorable one against Liverpool in 2017<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fastest ever<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On 23 April 2019, Long scored the fastest goal in Premier League history<\/a> against Watford<\/a>, clocking in at 7.69 seconds after kick off!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irish\nhotshot <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Shane is a firm favourite with Irish fans having given us so many memorable goals in his 82 appearances for \u201cThe Boys in Green\u201d.  The Gortnahoe<\/a> man\u2019s goal against the against reigning world champions Germany<\/a> in the 2016 Euro qualifiers on the 8th<\/sup> of October 2015 will live long in Irish soccer folklore.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shane put the ball in the England net!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Shane joined a small group of Irish players when he scored against England<\/a> on May 13th  <\/sup>2013 in Wembley<\/strong>.  No doubt Shane is rearing to go for next season for both club and country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s good to talk<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In 1937<\/strong> the Irish\ngovernment<\/strong> felt that children were too busy to talk to their family\nand neighbours<\/strong>! They made it part of their homework to write down family\nhistory, folklore, songs<\/strong> etc. Their work is now part of the\namazing Duchas\nProject<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family history<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It is unusual that children have so much free time so maybe they use it
effectively to learn about their local and family history<\/strong>?
In these challenging times we can encourage our children to ring or write
to elderly relatives<\/strong> and record stories that influenced their lives. Who knows they may have some great sporting moments<\/strong> to share with the next generation! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
