It is a great honour to have Armagh <\/strong>forward Rory Grugan<\/a><\/strong> take part in our #InspiringYou<\/strong> interview series. Children from around the country are being given the opportunity to send questions to some of Ireland\u2019s leading personalities<\/strong>. All-Ireland legend Rena Buckley<\/a> and Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichenta<\/a>l are also part of our interview series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

#InspiringYou<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The idea for #InspiringYou<\/strong> is for us to inspire each other<\/strong> and to help children dream of a brighter tomorrow<\/strong>. It would be great if the #InspiringYou<\/strong> interviews help start conversations in families around the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rory\u2019s Story<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Rory\u2019s first got bitten by the \u201cfootball bug\u201d when he started playing with his club Ballymacnab Round Towers<\/a> at the age of 5.  His first experience playing with Armagh<\/a> was at development squad level.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minor Glory<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Armagh captain started to take a more serious attitude to his football when he was called up to the Armagh minor squad in 2008. In 2009 Rory was vice captain of a very talented squad that went on to win the All-Ireland minor championship<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior Call Up<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Rory was honoured to get called up to the senior panel in 2011. He showed great patience and resilience and made his debut in the championship in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rory as Captain<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Rory was captain of Armagh from 2017 to 2020. One of Rory\u2019s highlights was lifting the division 3 league title inCroke Park<\/a> in 2018. No doubt there will be other big days to come for Rory in the future for both club and county. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1937<\/strong> the Irish government<\/strong> felt that children were too busy to talk to their family and neighbours<\/strong>! They made it part of their homework to write down family history, folklore, songs<\/strong> etc. Their work is now part of the amazing Duchas Project<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family history<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It is unusual that children have so much free time so maybe they use it
effectively to learn about their local and family history<\/strong>?
In these challenging times we can encourage our children to ring or write
to elderly relatives<\/strong> and record stories that influenced their lives. Who knows they may have some great sporting moments<\/strong> to share with the next generation! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
