Holocaust survivor and educator Tomi Reichental<\/strong> believes that life is better with dreams, love and empathy. We couldn’t agree more.  Tomi <\/strong> is a man who unfortunately has been through a lot in his life. As a young 9 year old boy he was imprisoned in the Bergen Belsen concentration camp<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anne Frank <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomi lost 35 members of his family during the Holocaust but never lost his ability to show empathy to others.
Anne Frank<\/a> was a fellow prisoner of Tomi\u2019s but sadly she didn\u2019t survive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What can you do?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the “Inspiring You” team met Tomi recently we decided to work together to help inspire children to be creative and see the “extra in the ordinary”. You can help grow Tomi’s legacy of empathy and love by entering our “Brighter Tomorrow with Tomi” competition<\/strong> proudly supported Amelhyne Photography<\/a> and our media partner Kamil Films<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don’t be a “Bystander”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomi asks us not to be a “Bystander<\/strong>” when we see something that is wrong. He encourages us to become “Upstanders”<\/strong> and to stand up for what is right. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creative Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We want primary and Junior Cert students to be creative and reflective.  You can write a story, poem, song or make a short video, take a photo or design a piece of art<\/strong> inspired by the themes of love and empathy which we believe the world needs now more than ever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Love and Empathy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can spread Tomi\u2019s message of<\/strong> hope, empathy<\/strong> and love<\/strong> in your classroom, home, community and through your creativity and actions in real life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to enter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once your child\/student has created their, “Brighter Tomorrow with Tomi”<\/strong> entry their teacher, parent or guardian can share it to @Inspiringyouirl on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.<\/strong> We will accept entries that are posted online using #InspiringTomi <\/strong>from the accounts of parents\/guardian.
You can also message us or email us<\/a> the link to your entry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to submit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you don’t have a social media account you can submit your “Brighter Tomorrow with Tomi” competition<\/strong> entry here<\/a>. If you have any questions you can reach us through our Contact Us<\/a>  section. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharing entries to inspire others<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will be sharing some entries on our social media platforms to help showcase the work of the students and help spread the legacy and message of #InspiringTomi<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deadline for entries<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final entries should be emailed or posted online using #InspiringTomi<\/strong> by 8pm on Tuesday April 4th<\/strong> 2023<\/strong> – the day of Martin Luther King’s<\/a><\/strong> 55th anniversary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winners announced<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winners will be announced at 8pm on Sunday the 9th of April<\/strong> 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspiring Prizes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five winning entries will each receive a copy of the children’s version of Tomi’s autobiography<\/a> signed by Tomi himself! A prize to enjoy and treasure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why? Your #InspiringTomi<\/strong> work will help spread Tomi’s message to a wider audience. It will also create a digital legacy for Tomi’s work and help promote the power of love and empathy to others online. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Impact of your work<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your actions and gestures for #InspiringTomi<\/strong> show that you are an “upstander<\/strong>” and will help make our world a better place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomi\u2019s “Inspiring You” interview with 9 year old Se\u00e1n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomi was 9 when he was imprisoned and lost his childhood. Se\u00e1n was also 9 when he met Tomi for our “Inspiring You” interview <\/a> filmed in 2017. He asked Tomi about his life, childhood. The emotive interview dealt centred on how we can work together to help prevent such evil acts happening again. The video has received over 200,000 views on social media and can be viewed Inspiringyouirl on Facebook<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A child’s insight<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Se\u00e1n<\/strong> got some great answers from Tomi <\/strong>on bullying, homelessness<\/strong> and racism<\/strong>. It made for a powerful interview. Sometimes a child\u2019s insight adds a clearer perspective on the need for empathy<\/strong> and love<\/strong> in our world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amelhyne Photography<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It is great to work with the brilliant Amelyne O’Reagan-Farineau promoting Tomi’s work with young people throughout Ireland. Amelhyne (a-mel-lean) is an 18 year old writer and podcaster from Co. Mayo. She hosts her own podcast called ‘Talk About It’<\/strong> with the aim of destigmatizing mental health. She is a passionate mental health advocate for children, teens and young adults. Amelhyne is currently studying Film & Broadcasting in TU Dublin and is an aspiring photographer<\/a> and director. She is a firm believer that creativity and originality can spark change through words and multi media.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kamil Films<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were delighted to have KamilFilms<\/a> as our media partners. We have worked on some fun videos in the past encouraging activity In Real Life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Se\u00e1n’s interview<\/a> with Tomi is child friendly and delivers a powerful message and was filmed by the talented Kamil Krolak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
