As a young 9 year old boy he was imprisoned in the Bergen Belsen concentration camp. He lost 35 members of his family during the Holocaust but never lost his ability to show empathy to others. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.annefrank.org\/en\/Anne-Frank\/\">Anne Frank<\/a>&nbsp;was a fellow prisoner of Tomi&#8217;s but sadly didn&#8217;t survive.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery alignright columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/inspiringyou.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Large-Se\u00e1n-and-Tomi-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"6007\" class=\"wp-image-6007\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inspiringyou.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Large-Se\u00e1n-and-Tomi-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/inspiringyou.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Large-Se\u00e1n-and-Tomi-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/inspiringyou.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Large-Se\u00e1n-and-Tomi-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/inspiringyou.ie\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Large-Se\u00e1n-and-Tomi-940x1410.jpg 940w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><figcaption>Tomi with his 9 year old interviewer Se\u00e1n<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Moving to Ireland in 1959<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite working and living in Ireland since 1959 Tomi has only started talking about his past in recent years.&nbsp; He has dedicated his life to visiting schools spreading his message of tolerance, empathy and compassion.&nbsp;His work has brought him to many countries around the world and he has had a number of documentaries made on his life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The documentary \u201c<strong>Condemned to Remember<\/strong>\u201d was produced by the renowned film maker <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/filmireland.net\/2017\/11\/12\/gerry-gregg-director-of-condemned-to-remember\/\">Gerry Gregg<\/a><\/strong>.&nbsp; It reflects on his life experiences during the Holocaust but also explores the very real possibility of such acts of hatred taking place in our world again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Creating a legacy of empathy towards others<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team at \u201c<strong>Inspiring You<\/strong>\u201d was very moved by his story having met him during a visit to Galway.  Tomi has talked to over 100,000 students in Ireland and we hope to spread his message to a greater audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tomi&#8217;s interview with 9 year old Se\u00e1n <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tomi was 9 when he was imprisoned and lost his childhood. 9 year old Se\u00e1n met him for an interview and asked Tomi about his life, childhood and how we can work together to help prevent such evil acts happening again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Se\u00e1n<\/strong> got some great answers from <strong>Tomi <\/strong>on bullying, homelessness and racism. It made for a powerful interview. Sometimes a child&#8217;s insight adds a clearer perspective on the need for empathy and love in our world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Your help is needed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a world filled with \u201c<strong>Fake news<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>trolls<\/strong>\u201d we want people to engage in Tomi\u2019s story of resilience and hope. Our concept is simple. We want people to be more empathetic to the experiences of others. This can be friends, family, classmates or people who have suffered in any way in the past or in present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What can you do ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We want children to be creative and reflective.&nbsp; You can write a story, poem, song or make a short video, take a photo or design a piece of art inspired by the theme of empathy or Tomi\u2019s story.
