The response from students around the country to our #OceanTransformer<\/strong> poster and message competition was incredible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fantastic plastic marine life created by Oonagh Herbert of Secret Life of Plastics <\/a>helped capture the imagination of the public at our launch<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hundreds of entries were received and they showed that a passion and commitment for change in our world is strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great entries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It was almost an impossible task to pick the winning entries such was the quality and imagination of the entrants.Amazing entries from all ages<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poster winner<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Second year students Lucy, Moya and Sophie from the Presentation College<\/strong>, Headford in Galway won the #OceanTransformer<\/strong> poster competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Message winner<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Third class student Ali from Mount Anville NS<\/strong> in Dublin claimed first prize for her class in the #OceanTransformer <\/strong>message competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspiring Change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Leading musician and environmentalist Sharon Shannon<\/a><\/strong> was so proud to see so many inspiring entries from across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sharon believes that children can influence shopping habits and waste management at home and help influence change in their schools and communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ocean Transformers who entered our competition are proving her right!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brighter world<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

NUIG Science amabassador<\/strong> and Marine biologist <\/strong>Catherine Jordan<\/a> was delighted at the response of young #OceanTransformers <\/strong>to the competition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catherine feels that the awareness and determination for a better world among young people can help turn the tide of pollution in the years ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emotion and Passion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Two of our judges artist Fiona Concannon<\/a> and writer and publisher Marguerite Tonery<\/a> were really impressed with the power, emotion, passion, creativity and vibrancy of the entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fun day swimming<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a result of Lucy, Moya and Sophie’s <\/strong>creativity they have won a trip for 25 to Leisureland, Galway<\/a> for an afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

No doubt you will all enjoy its award winning pool followed by a round of Adventure golf<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bay tour<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ali’s imaginative message<\/strong> has won her a class a land and sea tour of Galway city of Galway Bay with Galway Bay Boat Tours<\/a> and Galway City Tours<\/a>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food for all<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Afterwards both groups will be treated to pizza at Supermac’s<\/strong> in Salthill.  The prizes are courtesy of our supporters in this environmental project Salthill Village<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Salthill Village<\/a> and Steeltech<\/a> supported our idea to challenge the imaginations of students throughout Ireland. Our ocean and marine life are drowning and dying in a sea of plastic pollution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The will and call to action to end this is growing with young people leading the fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Idealism in our world<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With the #FridaysForFuture <\/a>movement growing it is clear that young people have the power to make real change happen. This idealism can help make our world a better place to live for future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Aquarium<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The winning entries and selected runners up will be displayed at the National Aquarium<\/a> in Salthill, Galway<\/strong> as part of a plastics pollution #OceanTransformer<\/strong> exhibition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thousands of visitors will get to see the inspirational posters and messages in the coming months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Showcasing work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Inspiring You<\/strong> will display a selection of messages and posters each Friday in support of the #FridaysForFuture<\/strong> movement. We will make contact with the “Highly Commended<\/strong>” students in the coming days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A small gift will be sent as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication and contribution to inspire change in our oceans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
