The Irish have always used music as a form of therapy in good times and bad. Inspiring You have teamed up with leading Irish musician Damien Dempsey to nurture the next generation of songwriters.
Soothe the Soul
Damien released his heartfelt, “Sing All Our Cares Away” in 2006 and dealt with issues that he saw during that stage in his life. The Dublin balladeer believes that music can, “Soothe the soul”.
An original song
In these challenging times we are encouraging primary and secondary students to compose an original song expressing how they are feeling. The song can be fun, reflective, optimistic – the choice is yours.
Creative energy
In the words of Damien, “Music is about healing and community and hope. It’s a way of life.” The Dublin songwriter is delighted to offer his support to “Inspiring You” in working to harness the creative energies of our nation’s youth.
Ireland musical culture
Throughout Irish history our nation’s people have used music and song as a source of strength and inspiration through turbulent times. Songs such as The Fields of Athenry and Dublin in the Rare Old Times are examples of songs that have helped people remember deal with loneliness and celebrate their Irishness. What impact will your competition song have?
Special class visit
The “Sing All Your Cares Away” schools’ competition is open to students of all ages, with the winner receiving a special class visit for the legendary Damien himself!
Practice from home!
With the current Covid guidelines it may not be possible for students to sing or play instruments in class. What you could do is compose the song and music in class and practice from the comfort of your home. A class virtual performance can be a solution!
Young Fans
Damien is a passionate supporter of young talent and has supported a number of schools competitions in the past. His visit to St.Cronan’s Junior National School in Swords was enthusiastically received by young fans!
Róisín Seoighe
Rising star of Irish music Róisín Seoighe was treated to a surprise visit by Damien to her school Scoil Chuimseach Chiaráin in Carraroe, Co. Galway as a prize for a song competition she won in 2015. The visit helped encourage Róisín to further her music career.
